After showing signs of possessing the Force, Rey visits Luke Skywalker, upending his peaceful life. While the First Order are battling Leia and the Resistance for control of the galaxy.
Now I am the first to admit that I'm not the biggest Star Wars fan going, so cut me some slack for a lack of in-depth exploration of the film. I enjoyed this film as a whole but did have some problems with it overall.
My first issue was the run-time; hailing a 152 minute run is quite a mission and knowing it was a long one all I could notice were moments that seemed unnecessary or too long. There were plenty of establishing shots which don't get me wrong looked incredible but were just long, if you add them all together it is just time that could be cut out. Another thing that I had issue with was the casino scene; now I loved this scene, it was representative of taking down the smaller evil and I thought it was quite significant but again more time that could easily have been cut.
Another problem I had was the time-frame. More than once Finn and Rose talked about how the Resistance Fleet was running out of fuel and had 'X' amount of hours, yet the mission that they had would take so much longer. This was a thing that happened quite a few times and while it is a lesser problem, it was just something that stuck out in my mind.
Now this film while (in my opinion) is not as good as 'The Force Awakens' or 'Rogue One' there were parts that I did enjoy. Obviously it was visually stunning and each scene looked fantastic and the score again was also amazing. I really enjoyed the humanity in the film and really felt that human emotions were touched upon, especially the friendship between Finn and Rose. I also really loved the heroic actions of Captain Phasma (I'm a sucker for a hero.) I always liked the scene between Kylo Ren and Luke Skywalker, it made for an interesting climax to the film and if I'm honest I didn't see the final result coming.
My final mention is given to the cast of this film, who always smash it. Daisy Ridley and John Boyega are two personal favourites of mine (if you haven't seen Boyega in 'Attack the Block' I recommend checking it out asap.) I also loved Kelly Marie Tran who played the adorable Rose Tico! I even felt a pang of sadness at seeing Carrie Fisher on screen for the final time and really loved the credit given to her at the end of the film.
