Mildred Hayes is tired of waiting for an answer concerning her daughters murder, so she aims straight for chief of police William Willoughby with her harsh message. Things get even trickier when the whole town gets involved.
The final screen unseen of the year was not a disappointment. While the film doesn't really go anywhere in the long-run, it is still powerful and poignant. I think for the most part, it's so moving because of the powerful performances. Frances McDormand (Mildred Hayes) was incredible, there wasn't a moment when she was on screen that I didn't love her. Also she was a bad-ass who didn't care about a thing, rocking her undercut and blue overalls (10/10 look.) Woody Harrelson is also standout as William Willoughby who is struggling with more than just his chief of police job.
It covers all the emotional points; I laughed, cried and smiled along the way. There was a particular scene that was hilarious when the family were in the kitchen and were riffing off each other and I just found it really funny and relatable, it could almost have been a recording of my own family.
One of the things that I loved most about this film was the character development. The change in characters from the beginning of the film to the end was incredible, I don't want to give anything away but the film really showcases human nature, at its best, worst and most powerful.
My only issue would be that it doesn't really go anywhere, by the end I was left wanting more!
