Ferdinand is a young bull who hates fighting. When his father fails to return from a showdown with a matador, Ferdinand takes his chance to make an escape. After his peaceful life on a farm is interrupted, he is returned to the camp and with the help of his new found friends he must escape again before the battle against a bullfighter who never loses.

A charming film that not only makes you laugh but teaches an important lesson: don't do things just because others expect it. While the film itself is not one of the best animated films I've ever seen, it has everything you need to make a good cartoon: comedy, a good moral and it looks great.

The film first caught my eye because of the amazing taglines 'you will bullieve' and 'this Christmas bullieve.' This made me actually pay attention to the trailer because I thought the taglines were pretty funny. The film is cheeky and charming. Ferdinand is absolutely adorable from the very first moment to the final seconds of the film and his love for nature and flowers is a great feature of the film.

Based on the 1936 book entitled 'The Story of Ferdinand' it just goes to show that some messages are timeless. While the animated version might not be the most memorable film, it's certainly a cute one. In a slow year for animated films, this is the standout and close to the source material which is always a nice bonus!

The visuals are wonderful and I adored how bright the film was when especially when he was free frolicking in the fields, in comparison to the darker tones when he was trapped in the bullfighting centre. It's also full of action including a great 'bull in a china shop' gag. The voice actors in this film were great, John Cena made a surprisingly great voice for a giant bull as did Kate McKinnon who was clearly born to voice ridiculous sidekicks.

That's about all I can say for this one, if you enjoy animated films it's one to catch.
