Famous dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock and sister Cyril are at the top of British fashion. A confirmed bachelor Woodcock looks for inspiration in the women who pass through his life until he meets Alma, who becomes a more permanent part of his life. His precise life is soon coming undone with the presence of his new lover and muse.

I gave this film a three out of ten because I thought it was terrible. I gave it three because of the three great aspects of this film: it looked wonderful, the score was classic and the acting was excellent. The score was one of my favourite things, it added an elegance to the scenes it was attached to. Each scene looked wonderful, it was very stylish and being a film about fashion, the clothes looked great. Despite the characters being highly unlikable I can't deny that the acting was very, very good.

My problems with this film are two-fold: the characters were horrible and despite being over two hours long nothing really happened. Daniel Day Lewis as Woodcock was very good but his character was so strange, to the extent that it was just too much, his obsession for routine was just strange. Even love interest Alma (Vicky Krieps who was also great) was quite boring, she just seemed to go along with whatever Woodcock wanted and there was no chemistry between the two characters, so it just seemed pointless.

One of the worst films I've probably ever seen. Having a film where your main characters are unlikable will never work for me.

While this movie was praised by critics, I most definitely can't understand why they love this film so much. I just struggled to connect to storyline or characters in any element. So let me start with a couple of positives at least before I go on to say why I completely disliked this movie. The actual feel and look of the movie was pleasing, the 1950's vibe was present throughout especially through the fashion. Another lovely component was the score, it was very classy and matched the storyline very well.

One major problem I had with 'Phantom Thread' was that the characters were so unlikable. The main character Reynolds Woodcock (played by Daniel Day Lewis) was the strangest character, he was honestly so weird is it uncomfortable to watch. I get that he was meant to be a wealthy and prestigious fashion designer, but his incapability to make any compromises with the people around him was painful. Also the relationship between him and Alma (Vicky Krieps) was so very bazaar. The way they met and first connected was unbelievable, and I personally sensed no connection between the two characters.

I was going to dive more into this film but I really can't be bothered as its already taken up so much of my time. I'll also add that the movie is too long with a 130 minute running time. I'd advise to avoid at all costs.
