When Kyle moves to a new school, he has a chance to reinvent himself as whoever he wants to be with the help of a magical app making his posts come true.
Having seen literally no marketing for this I knew straight away that it was a trashy half-term release. It wasn't the worst film I've ever seen but it's not much better. It's cringe, a bit of a rip off of other films, silly and full of clichès.
There were a few problems I had with this film, the first being the rip off straight from the Disney classics 'High School Musical' and 'Go Figure', our main character finds himself torn between playing in the championship ice hockey game or singing in the final of band slam. Not that this is a plot device solely for Disney use but it's just a little overused and unoriginal.
Another issue I had was the cringe factor. The film constantly threw Snapchat, Instagrams and emojis all over the screen and the script was pretty much full cringe phrases like "posi vibes only." There is nothing wrong with this, films like 'Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging' and 'Bend it Like Beckham' use slang relevant to the time but I feel there needs to be a balance and this film just over did it a little bit.
My final problem with this film was the choices our mad character made, there was an attempt to make the audience feel sorry for the way things were turning out for main character Kyle, but actually he made some pretty stupid choices like betraying his best friend and the girl he liked. The attempt didn't work on me personally and I just felt sorry for the other characters he betrayed!
Rant over - despite the negatives, this film is easy to watch and has some great music and catchy songs in it, so at least the soundtrack keeps the film going.
