Polite businessman Harold finds himself in trouble with his colleagues, drug lords and a mercenary after becoming a wanted criminal while in Mexico on business.
While I went in thinking that the trailer gave everything away because of it's extended nature I was wrong! While the trailer doesn't give everything away and there were a few curve-balls thrown out, it doesn't have the comedy that a film like this needs to be a decent watch. The script was unfunny and there really weren't any moments that I thought particularly stood out despite having a cast that good carry it off.
The highlight is the cast, Charlize Theron and Joel Edgerton were especially unlikable and they maintain this the whole time. David Oyelowo was the highlight of the film as his character was ridiculous and silly at times but overall a really likeable person, similarly Amanda Seyfried plays a nice character who helps Harold believe in being good and sticking to his guns.
The main message of this film is actually really nice and despite Harold questioning the way his life was going throughout the film, he comes round in the end and it all pays off for him. That's about all I have for this one, it has a few plot twists and a good message overall but is nothing special.

Gringo is movie that breaks no boundaries or presents anything new or groundbreaking. It is an entirely average movie which struggles to execute any genre. With failure to be a successful comedy it makes it difficult to stand out in any way. So at face value its a movie about Harold being stuck in Mexico with various people including drug lords wanting to track him down. Nothing crazy or hella entertaining about that.
I will say that there is a certain complexity to the way to characters interlink. Each character kind of relates to each person in a small way, but there isn't enough development for it to make a real impact on the story line. The supporting actors in Charlize Theron and Joel Edgerton were spot on in their roles as unlikable greedy bosses. Abusing their power for personal gain is such an ugly trait. However they did play these roles quite perfectly. There was also another sub-plot with Amanda Seyfried who plays a small role which she had a tiny meaningful relationship with Harold (David Oyewolo).
I wouldn't recommend going to see this movie as I guess you would ultimately be left underwhelmed and disappointed like me. It's just one of those films thats very meh. You suddenly walk out of the theatre and it becomes very forgettable.
