What Men Want is one of those films that is just a complete gender switch rip-off, it's pretty much What Women Want reversed (obviously!) It's fine, if you're looking for a film to have on in the background or have a laugh about with a few mates then it's suitable but even for this purpose, there are better choices.
It starts off quite strong, with Ali being a tough woman working as a sports agent, stuck in a men's world she is sick of being passed over. When she suddenly gains the power to hear men's thoughts, she learns some home truths the tough way and slowly begins to change her ways. It's a pretty standard formula and it's incredibly predictable.
Despite it's predictability, there are a few laughs to be had along the way and Taraji P. Henson is a good actress, so her performance as Ali is good, she's quite a likeable character and I was definitely rooting for her by the end of the film. It's shot very well, there's some slick camera work and it's bright and well set. With the sets being well designed and very light.
There's really not an awful lot more that can be said for this one. Thanks to Henson's solid performance there are a few laughs to be had along the way, in this otherwise routine workplace comedy with a side of romance thrown in.

Not going to lie there is a long gap between seeing this movie and reviewing it! I've got a lot of pending reviews to write and this one kind of got stuck at the back - I don't know if thats a sign or not. To be honest as well, I did get this mixed up with 'Little' - they both involve some sort of supernatural crazy life change which changes perspective to make the main characters life better.
Anywho 'What Men Want' wasn't a great movie but it also wasn't a car crash either. Ali Davies is a sports agent who is constantly being undermined by the men who hugely populate her line of work. She drinks a weird potion and then she is able to hear what men think. Ali uses her new ability to try and sign new hotshot basketball player Jamal at the same time as she tries to start some sort of relationship with Will.
The storyline is kind of all over the place, a relationship storyline tied into a work competitive aspect. Nevertheless it was quite funny the first few scenes where Ali could hear the men's thoughts! There was a few moments in which I laughed but I can't help feel that this style of movie is becoming so over saturated and none of these films are ever outstanding. It's crazy how well this movie did in the Box Office and it shows what audiences do prefer however it does leave me feeling slightly uninspired.
